All photos were Photoshopped to my liking at the time of scanning, and my liking does vary over time. ![]() ![]() The Plustek scan is always first in each pair. I’ll share a scan from each roll here from the Plustek, and for black and white a scan from the Scan Dual II, and for color a scan from the lab’s scanner. I scanned strips of Fomapan 200, T-Max 100, Kodak Max 400, Fujicolor 200, and 50-year-expired GAF 125, aka Ansco Versapan. I just stuck with VueScan, which recognized the Plustek instantly. I used to use it with my old Epson flatbed and found it to be so cumbersome as to be unpleasant. SILVERFAST PLUSTEK 8200I NOT FOUND INSTALLMy Plustek came with SilverFast scanning software, but I didn’t install or use it. Holy cow, is the Plustek blazing fast compared to the Scan Dual II! I scanned a strip in the Plustek from each of the last five rolls of film I shot. She had heard me lament the long scan times I was experiencing with my otherwise acceptable Minolta Scan Dual II and decided to help a film photographer out. SILVERFAST PLUSTEK 8200I NOT FOUND MANUALSI also did all of my education without computers, both degrees, and by my own admission it is not intuitive for me to learn much computer software - but give me reference manuals and I can get there much easier.īut again, I'm getting there and the dust and scratch removal tool is immensely valuable to me - so I keep plugging away.My wife bought me a Plustek OpticFilm 8200i SE scanner for Christmas. I think this is probably where & why some have complained about the SilverFast software in the past. SILVERFAST PLUSTEK 8200I NOT FOUND MANUALBut I think SilverFast would do us all a favor by setting up a more comprehensive user manual that we can reference where we can poke around and explore the function of various tools and gain a better understanding without so much trial and error. Some, like the color bit issue I was able to figure out by reading through a number of the user forum posts. There are a number of other issues I've encountered as well. But there is no written documentation of explanation of the tool and that fix to the problem I was experiencing. By opening the Expert Dialog and playing with it I found that if the marks are not on the dust but adjacent to them, to check the box "Use manual offset" and then the marks for correction would be exactly on the dust spots and give me the dust removal I wanted. SILVERFAST PLUSTEK 8200I NOT FOUND HOW TOAnd of course using it in that way would result in no dust being removed/corrected. I called SiverFast and they didn't know what was wrong or how to work around it. I would literally see the red marks for where it would correct the dust spots off to the side and adjacent to the dust instead of over the dust spots. For example, as good as the iSRD dust and scratch removal tool is when it works, it will miss the mark for the dust spots on some of my slides. SilverFast also recommended watching all their videos and they are ok for simpler operations but don't go into much if any detail and about the "Expert Dialog" tools which I have had to largely figure out on my own. I've looked at those EJ, but they seem cursory at best, and hence my comments about SilverFast's written documentation being inadequate. Here is all the Silverfast doccumentation: That to me seems a bit over the top and unnecessary when in my case I just needed explanation of some of the tools so I could get going with it. Of course, if you call SilverFast USA office they offer to have a tech support person hook up to your computer and take a look at what is happening if you are having difficulty with the software. Instead they have a cursory cookbook style quick guide and we non-techy's are on our own to figure it out by trial and error or go online to their user forums and read every post of interest. Now that I've corrected my scanning to be 16 bit per channel (SilverFast 48 bit) the scans look even better at 3600 ppi in 16 bit than the 8 bit scans at 7200 ppi - not a great surprise.įor as good as some of the tools in SilverFast Ai are (like their iSRD dust and scratch removal tool), I really wish they had better written documentation of their software. In SilverFast 16 bit is called 48 bit (16 bit X 3 color channels), but they don't explain that. The SilverFast software is just a bit confusing and has IMO an extra learning curve since there is only minimal written documentation about it's tools. A 3600ppi scan at 16 bit yields a 92-95 MB file. I thought I was scanning in 16bit when in fact it was only 8bit. ![]() I want to add a correction to the file size I said I was getting. ![]()
